Sleep apnea is a Sleep-Related Breathing Disorder (SRBD) identified by pauses or cessation of breathing for various causes and duration throughout a regular night's sleep. The cause can vary from Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), where a physical relaxing of the airway causes breathing to stop, to Central Sleep Apnea (CSA) where there is an occasional interruption in the signal from the brain to breathe. Depending on the cause, treatment can vary. The Breath Factory can help you identify the problem with your sleep, and guide you in the treatment process indefinitely.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard in treating OSA and many other SRBDs. CPAP involves a small, quiet, bedside machine that provides pressure via a mask to "splint" open your airway to prevent pauses in breathing and the associated detrimental clinical manifestations.
CPAP therapy has come a long way in the past couple of decades and today's machines and masks make using CPAP more comfortable than ever. Contact one of our team members for more information and to set up an appointment to discuss your concerns with a staff Respiratory Therapist.
Of course we can! CPAP masks have also undergone quite a transformation over the years. Many people fear some device that covers their entire face, inducing feelings of claustrophobia and visions of the character Bane from the Batman movies. You'll be comforted to know this is not the case, as many masks these days cover only the nostrils or nose and require only a small, soft adjustable strap to secure in place.
If you experience daytime tiredness, morning headaches, irritability as well as snoring or a partner witnessing you gasping or stopping breathing during sleep, you may have OSA. To help with the confirmation of that diagnosis and severity, The Breath Factory can set you up with a NO COST simple, yet comprehensive sleep study in the comfort of your own home.
By taking home a small piece of equipment to use while you sleep, you can take part in a Level 3 sleep study in your own bed. It only takes one night and the results are scored and interpreted by independent sleep specialists. Your results will then be reviewed with your Respiratory clinician and therapy, if indicated, explained and implemented.
Most private or group insurance policies cover anywhere from 70-100% of the cost associated with the purchase of your equipment. Depending on the policy, regular purchases of masks and necessary accessories may also be covered. Contact us for more details.
Our Respiratory clinicians will follow your care every step of the way. Once CPAP therapy has begun, we will be in touch several times over the first month to address any concerns you might have with treatment. After that time, we will contact you at regular intervals to ensure you are satisfied with your treatment plan and are finding improvements in your symptoms.
Feel free to contact us to arrange an appointment at your convenience if at any time you wish to discuss any issues or concerns. At The Breath Factory, we are here to help make your sleep and life the best it can possibly be.
